Gun Instructor

Welcome to my website. My name is Don Roberts. I have been an NRA Certified Handgun Instructor since 1995. In 1996 I was certified through the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) to teach the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act’s Concealed Carry Course, when the Oklahoma Legislature passed the concealed carry legislation into law.

I am passionately involved in gun training, offering classes in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, and I author a bi-monthly newsletter on guns, concealed carry, training, and legislative issues.

Course Descriptions:

The NRA Certified Basic Handgun Class consists of training in: Handgun Safety, Pistol Mechanics and Operations, Building Shooting Skills, Pistol Maintenance and a 50-round course of fire. A written exam is given at the end of the class. Those who pass the exam receive a Basic Handgun Class Certificate from the National Rifle Association.

The Personal, One-on-one, Handgun Instruction is given in six-hour training segments. Those classes are scheduled on a case by case basis, between the hours of 7:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m. on any day of the week. In this class, you can bring your gun(s), if you'd like, and I will bring some of mine. In addition to handgun theory, safety, and shooting fundamentals, we will shoot a variety of guns to compare and contrast. The cost is $120. For an additional student (such as husband and wife) add $30 to make it $150.

The Handgun License Class costs covers Oklahoma Law, Deadly Force issues, Safety, Shooting Fundamentals, Handgun Operation, Ammunition, and a 50-round course of fire. It is an abbreviated "basic" class for handguns with an emphasis on Safety. A 15-question test is given in which you must get 11 correct to received your certificate. The certificate can then be submitted with your concealed carry license application to the Sheriff's Office of the County in which you live.

The Personal Handgun Defense Course covers practical handgun defensive techniques based on the way we instinctively react to being confronted by violence. Shooting defensively is much different than target shooting and plinking. The purpose of this class is to blend how we normally react to dangerous situations with effective handgun defense.
